Swindon station regeneration and improvements to Wellington Street, New Bridge Square at the heart of the Tri-Centre and the underpass beneath Fleming Way to create the right first impressions of Swindon.

Swindon Station Regeneration

Swindon is one of only three stations identified in the UK Government’s Rail Estate Regeneration Initiative focussed on increasing sales revenue.

Collaboratively with Network Rail, plans are in progress to underpin the multi million-pound investment required to transform the station and under-utilised land into a vibrant railway village with residential, office, retail and leisure investment opportunities.

Alongside a state of the art transport interchange, Swindon station has the potential to create nearly 500 new homes, 500 new jobs and nearly £400 million of inward investment to support the realisation of the Swindon Town Centre Masterplan.

Public Realm

The priority is to transform these vital elements of the centre’s public realm using Council funding, creating high quality, safe, secure and attractive walking and cycling routes connecting the railway station to the town centre.

Short-term measures to clean up Fleming Way underpass and tackle rough-sleeping will also be implemented.

A town centre ‘streets strategy’ will set out details of surfaces materials, lighting, benches, bollards, paving, trees and landscaping, and other issues to a co-ordinate the approach to transforming Swindon’s key streets.
